Spelling Bee: David Olukoya of U.A.M.C Pry, Chiamaka Nwode of Zumuratul Islamiyyah Grammar School, To Represent Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA

Omo’ba Hammed Aroyewun presenting gift items to winners of the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA preliminary phase of the 2025 Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition

The duo of David Olukoya of U.A.M.C Primary School, Eleja, and Chiamaka Nwode of Zumuratul Islamiyyah Grammar School, Igbogbo, will this year represent Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, at the 2025 Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition.

The duo will represent Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA at the State Spelling Bee Competition in the primary and secondary school categories, where they will be competing against other students representing the remaining 56 LG/LCDAs.

Both emerged victorious in both primary and secondary schools’ categories at the preliminary contest held on Wednesday at the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA secretariat.

The annual competition brought together some of the brightest young minds from public primary and secondary schools within the council area, offering them a platform to showcase their intellectual abilities and earn the honour of representing Igbogbo/Baiyeku at the Lagos State Spelling Bee finals.

The Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, speaking at the educational event, commended the students for their diligence and competitive spirit, while heaping praise on the teachers for their dedication and sacrifice, describing them as “true heroes shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”

Reflecting on his personal journey, the Chairman proudly noted that he is a product of public schools and attributed his achievements to the solid educational foundation he received. He urged the participants to remain focused, pursue excellence, embrace discipline, and shun vices such as drug abuse.

He also pledged special rewards for outstanding representatives of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA at the state level.

In recognition of their outstanding performances, Chairman Aroyewun presented merit awards and gift items to all winners, while assuring continued support for initiatives that promote learning and academic excellence across the LCDA.

Also, in the primary category Odoh Godwill, L.G. Primary School, Baiyeku emerged as the 1st Runner-up while Azeez Abdulsamod – L.G Primary School, Igbe was 2nd Runner-up.

Blessing Okafor – Lagos State Civil Service Model School and Deniyi Olawunmi – Community Senior Grammar School, were 1st and 2nd Runner-ups respectively in the secondary school category.

Other guests at the event were Council Manager, Mrs. Olamide Whenu; Hon. Wasiu Olowu; the Chief of Staff, and other members of management.
